In plain words

For a long time a person can be caught up in busy-ness, wandering many directions.

They reach for things that were never theirs and get tangled.

But then comes the good company.

At last they arrive at the door and see the One face to face.

They meet the teacher — and the restless wandering finally comes to rest.

The long wandering finally comes to rest at the door of the good.
The deeper layer

A wandering heart finally comes home.

Kirtan juree-aa baho biDh firee-aa: here kirtan juree-aa means tied up in busy work, running here and there. The person even reaches for what belongs to others, and gets tangled in wrong things.

Then everything changes. Ab saaDhoo sang paree-aa: now they join the saadh sangat, the company of good and holy people. They stand at the Lord's door and see the One.

Naanak gur miree-aa, bahur na firee-aa: meeting the Guru, the wandering is over. The short lines race at first and then slow down. It is like a runner crossing the finish line and finally stopping to breathe.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you finally settle after a restless, scattered day?
