Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I came to You, and I came to Your shelter — I brought my whole self and just showed up.
I came trusting You, hoping for kindness. Keep me however You see best; the teaching is what set me on this path.
I have come to You, and I am here to stay.
This is the "Rahao," the pause line at the center of the shabad. It is built on one word said again and again: aa-i-aa, "I have come." Ta-o mai aa-i-aa sarnee aa-i-aa: I have come to You, I have come to Your shelter.
Bharosai aa-i-aa: I have come in trust. This trust is more than believing something is true. It is leaning your whole weight on it, like falling back into a friend's arms in a trust game.
Ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakho: keep me however You like. Maarag gureh pathaa-i-aa: the Guru put me on this road. Showing up and trusting is the whole of it.
When has just showing up, even unsure, turned out to be enough?
