In plain words

Day and night, with every breath, let me sing about what is good — if that is how the flow moves.

All I really ask for is the peace of Your Name, and when the moment is right, I trust it will come.

The one thing worth asking for is the peace that the Name brings.
The deeper layer

This one asks for just one thing: the peace of the Name.

Din rain saas saas gun gaavaa means "day and night, breath by breath, I would sing Your goodness." Jay su-aamee tuDh bhaavaa adds, "if that pleases You, Master."

Naam tayraa sukh naanak maagai means Nanak asks for the sukh, the peace, of Your Naam, Your Name. Saahib tuthai paavaa means he receives it when the Master is glad to give it.

This peace comes as a gift. It is not grabbed. Think of a teammate passing you the ball. You get it when they pass it, not by snatching it.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing you would want to do 'with every breath'?
