In plain words

I keep wondering - is there a place where a person never once forgets the One? A place where, all day and all night, the heart stays turned toward You?

They say living that way makes everything about a person clear and clean. I want to find that place.

The place I am looking for is the one where I never forget the One.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan opens with a question: where is the place where You are never forgotten?

Visrahi naahee jit too kabhoo so thaan tayraa kayhaa means "what is that place of Yours, where You are never forgotten?" Aath pahar means all eight watches, the whole day and night. In the old way of keeping time, a day had eight pahar.

Nirmal hovai dayhaa means the body becomes spotless. Not by washing, but by remembering all the time. Think of a treasure hunt that starts with one clue: "Find the place." The rest of the shabad sets out to answer it.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most awake and clear - most like yourself?
