Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
mahaa agan tay tuDh haath day raakhay pa-ay tayree sarnaa-ee.
Giving me Your Hand, You saved me from the terrible fire, when I sought Your Sanctuary.
tayraa maan taan rid antar hor doojee aas chukaa-ee. ||1||
Deep within my heart, I respect Your strength; I have abandoned all other hopes. ||1||

In plain words

When everything felt like too much, like a fire I could not get out of, You reached out a hand and held me the moment I turned to You.

Now, deep inside, I lean on Your strength, and I have let go of clutching at every other thing to save me.

When it was too much, a hand reached out the moment I turned toward it.
The deeper layer

mahaa agan - the great fire, the burning of anxiety and craving; haath day raakhay - saved by the giving of a hand; hor doojee aas chukaa-ee - other hopes set aside, trust resting in the One. The fire here is a picture of inner overwhelm, not a threat.

A Question to Sit With

Who reached out a hand when things felt like too much for you?
