Raag Soohee, Shabad 74 - Lifted Out of the Dark
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਏ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਆਪਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
anDh koop tay kaadh lee-ay tumH aap bha-ay kirpaalaa.
You pulled me up out of the deep, dark pit. You have become merciful to me.
ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਏ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥
saar samHaal sarab sukh dee-ay aap karay partipaalaa. ||2||
You care for me, and bless me with total peace; You Yourself cherish me. ||2||

I was down in a deep, dark hole, and You lifted me right out - not because I earned it, but because kindness is Your nature.
You look after me, wrap me in peace, and care for me like I am Your own.
Kindness lifted me out of the dark, not anything I earned.
anDh koop - the blind, dark well, an image of being lost in confusion; kirpaalaa - compassionate; saar samaal - tending and watching over; partipaalaa - cherishing, nurturing. Grace is given, not earned.
