Your servant begs for the dust of Your feet. I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1||

In plain words

The teaching that guides me is not small - it opens straight onto the vast One, the maker of everything.

And all I ask for is the humblest place near it, the dust of the path. Just to catch sight of You, I would give everything.

Just to catch sight of the One, I would give everything.
The deeper layer

The Guru is the way to the One, and all the singer asks for is to be near.

Paarbarahm parmaysar satgur aapay karnaihaaraa — the True Guru, the teacher who shows the true way, is one with the Supreme. The One is the maker of everything. Think of the teaching as a door. Step through it, and you are standing under the whole wide sky.

Charan Dhoorh tayree sayvak maagai — Your servant asks for the dust of Your feet. That means the humblest place, right down on the path where the teacher walks. Darsan means seeing, catching sight of the One. The singer says, "Just to see You, I would give everything."

Why ask for such a low place? A cup held high stays empty. A cup held low, under the tap, gets filled. Being humble is how we get ready to receive.

A Question to Sit With

What would you give a lot just to be near?
