ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
mayray raam raa-ay ji-o raakhahi ti-o rahee-ai.
O my Sovereign Lord, as You keep me, so do I remain.

tuDh bhaavai taa naam japaaveh sukh tayraa ditaa lahee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When it pleases You, I chant Your Name. You alone can grant me peace. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

However You hold me, that is how I will be - I have stopped fighting the shape my life takes.

When the moment is right, the Name rises up in me, and the peace I feel is a gift from You, not something I made.

However life holds me, I can rest in it - even the peace is a gift.
The deeper layer

I will be at peace however You keep me.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Ji-o raakhahi ti-o rahee-ai — as You keep me, so I stay. This is resting in hukam, the One's will, the way life flows. It brings sahaj, a calm and natural ease. Think of floating in a pool. When you stop thrashing, the water holds you up.

TuDh bhaavai taa naam japaaveh — when it pleases You, You help me repeat the Name. So even remembering the One is something given. It is not something we force.

Sukh tayraa ditaa lahee-ai — the peace we find is Your gift. We do not have to earn our calm. We can simply receive it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have stopped fighting and started resting in?
