Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 78 - You Come to Mind, and There Is Joy
Verse 4 of 5

Raag Soohee, Shabad 78 - I Lay My Whole Inside Open to You

ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਹਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
antar kee gat tuDh peh saaree tuDh jayvad avar na ko-ee.
I place the state of my inner being before You; there is no other as great as You.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਇ ਲੈਹਿ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਗਤੁ ਤੁਹਾਰਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
jis no laa-ay laihi so laagai bhagat tuhaaraa so-ee. ||3||
He alone is attached, whom You attach; he alone is Your devotee. ||3||

In plain words

I set my whole inner self out in front of You - nothing hidden - because there is no one greater to bring it to.

And whoever gets drawn close to You is drawn by You; that closeness itself is Your doing.

I lay my whole inside open to the One, holding nothing back.
The deeper layer

I show You everything inside me, because no one is greater than You.

Antar kee gat tuDh peh saaree — I set the whole state of my inside before You. Nothing is hidden. It is like finally telling a parent everything about your day, the good parts and the hard parts. You feel lighter afterwards. TuDh jayvad avar na ko-ee — no one else is as great as You.

Jis no laa-ay laihi so laagai — the one You draw close is the one who comes close. So even loving the One is the One's doing. That keeps us from taking credit. Nobody gets to say, "Look how good I am at loving God." The love itself was given.

A Question to Sit With

Is there someone you can lay your whole inside open to?
