Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My dear Beloved, no one knows where You end — because You don't end.

You fill the water, the land, and the sky; You spread through everything there is, all on Your own.

The One has no edges — it fills everything there is.
The deeper layer

After all those questions, Guru Nanak answers with wonder: no one knows where You end.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the song. Mayray laal jee-o — "My dear Beloved." Laal means a precious ruby, and also a dear one.

Tayraa ant na jaanaa — "I don't know Your limit."

TooN jal thal mahee-al bharipur leenaa — "You fill the water, the land, and the sky." Think of the air in your room. It fills every corner, and it is also outside, over the whole city. The One is like that, spread through everything, all on Your own.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel a sense of something vast and wonderful all around you?
