Verse 4 of 5

You Are the Scale and the Weigher Both

ਆਪੇ ਕੰਡਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
aapay kandaa tol taraajee aapay tolanhaaraa.
You Yourself are the balance, the weights and the scale; You Yourself are the weigher.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
aapay daykhai aapay boojhai aapay hai vanjaaraa. ||3||
You Yourself see, and You Yourself understand; You Yourself are the trader. ||3||

In plain words

You Yourself are the scale, the weights, and the little pointer; You Yourself do the weighing.

You watch, You understand, and You are even the trader carrying the goods. It is all You, from one end to the other.

The One is not only what is measured but the measuring itself.
The deeper layer

In the end, every part of the weighing is the One.

Aapay kandaa tol taraajee — You are the kandaa, the little pointer on the scale. You are the weights, and You are the scale. Aapay tolanhaaraa — and You are the one doing the weighing.

Aapay daykhai aapay boojhai — You see, and You understand. Aapay hai vanjaaraa — You are even the vanjaaraa, the trader carrying the goods.

Think of a play where one person wrote the story, built the stage, plays every part, and sits in the audience too. There is no spot outside the One to stand and measure from. It is all You, from one end to the other.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you notice the same one thing showing up in many different forms?
