Traveling Light, Traveling Good

ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਆਪਣਾ ॥

Continually, continuously, remember and cherish your Beloved Lord in your heart.

For if you depart with virtue, then pain shall never afflict you. ||5||

In plain words

Every day, gently, I keep the One I love tucked into my heart, the way you keep a warm thought close on a cold morning.

And if I carry goodness with me wherever I go, then the hard things lose their sting. No pain can trouble me then.

Carry goodness with you, and the hard things lose their sting.
The deeper layer

This one says to keep the One close every day, and to carry goodness with you.

Nit nit ridai samaal preetam aapnaa means "every day, again and again, keep your Beloved in your ridai," your heart. It is a daily habit, like brushing your teeth.

Jay chaleh gun naal naahee dukh santaapanaa means if you set out carrying gun, goodness, pain cannot torment you.

Think of a warm jacket on a cold walk. The cold is still there, but it cannot bite. The daily habit of remembering the One works like that. The habit itself is the protection.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing do you want to carry with you everywhere you go?
