Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When I put myself into the teaching — really live it, not just admire it — I come home richer, carrying something that lasts.
And letting the sacred words settle in me brings a deep, free stillness, the kind that no one can take away.
This one says living the teaching brings home a profit that lasts.
Gur kee kaar kamaa-ay means doing the Guru's work, really living the teaching. Laahaa ghar aani-aa means bringing laahaa, profit, back home.
Think of learning piano. Admiring a great player does not make your fingers move. Practice does, and that skill stays yours for good.
Gurbaanee nirbaan sabad pachhaani-aa means that through Gurbani, the Guru's words, a person comes to know nirbaan. Nirbaan is a deep, free peace, with no grabbing wants left in it. Serving and living the Word bring an inner freedom no one can take away.
What is something worth doing not for a reward, but for who it makes you?
