Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I want to keep the Name close and never let it slip from my mind, morning and night, like a song I never stop humming.

However life holds me — easy days or hard ones — I find my peace inside that holding. The peace does not depend on getting my way.

Peace is found inside however life holds me, not in getting my way.
The deeper layer

This verse asks to keep the Name close all day and night, and to find peace in whatever way life holds us.

Manhu na naam visaar, ahinis dhi-aa-ee-ai: keep the Name in mind, and remember it day and night. Ahinis means day and night. Think of a song you love so much that you hum it without noticing.

Ji-o raakhahi kirpaa dhaar tivai sukh paa-ee-ai: however You keep me, by Your kindness, that is how I find peace. Peace is found inside the holding. It does not come from getting everything our own way. Like a baby carried in a parent's arms, you don't have to steer to feel safe.

A Question to Sit With

Can you feel okay inside even when things do not go your way? What helps?
