Once Joined, Never Torn Apart

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
satgur maylay taa mil rahaa saach rakhaa ur Dhaar.
The True Guru unites her, and so she remains united with Him, with the True Lord enshrined within her heart.
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧੪॥
mili-aa ho-ay na veechhurhai gur kai hayt pi-aar. ||14||
And so united, she will not be separated again; she remains in the love and affection of the Guru. ||14||

In plain words

When the True Guru joins me to the One, I stay joined, and I keep the True One held in my heart.

Once joined, I am not torn away again; I stay in the Guru's love and care.

A bond the Guru ties does not come undone.
The deeper layer

When the Guru joins you to the One, that bond does not come undone.

In this shabad, the soul is pictured as a bride, and the One as her beloved. Satgur maylay taa mil rahaa — when the True Guru joins her to the One, she stays joined. Saach rakhaa ur Dhaar — she keeps the True One held in her heart.

Mili-aa ho-ay na veechhurhai — once joined, she is not torn away again. She is held gur kai hayt pi-aar, in the Guru's love and care. Think of a knot tied by someone who knows knots well. Tug all you want. It holds.

A Question to Sit With

What's a bond in your life that feels like it will always hold?
