Verse 11 of 33

With You Beside Me, Let Them Talk

jay tuDh val rahai taa ko-ee kihu aakha-o tuDh visri-ai mar jaa-ee. ||10||
If You are on my side, then anyone can say anything. But if I were to forget You, then I would die. ||10||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

As long as the One is with me, people can say whatever they like — it doesn't rattle me one bit.

The only thing I truly couldn't bear would be losing that closeness. Without it, everything else would feel empty; with it, I'm steady.

With the One beside you, other people's talk loses its sting.
The deeper layer

jay tudh val rahai ta ko-ee kihu aakha-o, tudh visri-ai mar jaa-ee — with You on my side, let anyone say anything; forgetting You is the only real loss. "Would die" is emotional, not literal — the sense of everything going hollow without that closeness.

A Question to Sit With

What steadies you when people are talking about you?
