Grateful Past Words

ਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਰਿ ਜਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਪੈ ਪੈਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਮਨਾਈ ॥੧੧॥
vaar vaar jaa-ee gur oopar pai pairee sant manaa-ee. ||11||
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to my Guru; falling at His Feet, I surrender to the Saintly Guru. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I'm so thankful for the wisdom that guides me that I could give myself over to it again and again.

I bow to it with my whole heart — not out of fear, but out of a gratitude so big it wants to lay everything down.

Some gratitude is so big it wants to bow all the way down.
The deeper layer

vaar vaar jaa-ee gur oopar, pai pairee sant manaa-ee — again and again a glad offering to the teaching, bowing at its feet. balihaar here is devotion, not fear; gratitude that overflows into surrender.

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped you so much you can hardly say thank you enough?
