Verse 17 of 33

Blossoming Like Rained-On Earth

ji-o Dhartee sobh karay jal barsai ti-o sikh gur mil bigsaa-ee. ||16||
Just as the earth looks beautiful when the rain falls, so does the Sikh blossom forth meeting the Guru. ||16||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When the rain falls, the earth turns green and beautiful.

In the same way, a Sikh blossoms on meeting the Guru, fresh and alive.

The right nourishment makes a heart blossom like rained-on earth.
The deeper layer

ji-o dhartee sobh karay jal barsai, ti-o sikh gur mil bigsaa-ee — as the earth grows beautiful under rain, the Sikh blossoms (bigsaa / vigaas) on meeting the Guru. The turn from longing to flowering.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel like you "come alive" the way earth does after rain?
