Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 90
Verse 21 of 33

You Become What You Love

jo tuDh sayveh so toohai hoveh tuDh sayvak paij rakhaa-ee. ||20||
Those who serve You, become You. You preserve the honor of Your servants. ||20||

In plain words

The amazing thing is this: the more someone gives their heart to the One, the more they start to become like that One.

And the One looks after those who lean in that way — quietly keeping their dignity safe. Love slowly turns us into what we love.

You slowly become whatever you give your heart to.
The deeper layer

jo tudh sayveh so toohai hoveh, tudh sayvak paij rakhaa-ee — those who serve You become You, and You guard the honor (paij) of Your servants. Love as transformation: we grow into what we give our hearts to.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what do you spend so much time loving that it's shaping who you are?
