the five thieves will not even approach. ||5||

In plain words

When I keep the One in mind, it is not just me who is lifted — everyone I carry with me, all my company, gets lifted too.

And the five inner thieves — anger, greed, ego, and the others that sneak in to rob my peace — cannot even get close.

Keeping the One in mind lifts not just me but everyone I bring along.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One lifts everyone around you, and keeps the five inner thieves away.

Jap gobind sangee sabh taaray — remember Gobind, the Master of the world, and all your sangee, your companions, are carried across. Your goodness does not lift only you. Think of a friend who stays calm during a hard test. Their calm helps the whole group.

Pohat naahee panch batvaaray — the panch batvaaray, the five robbers, cannot even come near. They are the five inner thieves: craving, anger, greed, clinging, and pride. So remembering the One lifts the whole group, and it guards the heart too.

A Question to Sit With

Which of the "five thieves" sneaks up on you most — and what keeps it away?
