The One at the Start, the Middle, and the End

ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
aad maDh ant parabh so-ee.
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥
naanak tis bin avar na ko-ee. ||8||1||2||
O Nanak, without Him, there is no other at all. ||8||1||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

At the beginning of everything, in the middle of it, and at the end — it is the same One, all the way through.

There is not a corner of my life where the One is not already present. Nothing is ever truly outside it.

There is no corner of my life where the One is not already present.
The deeper layer

The same One is there at the start, in the middle, and at the end.

Aad maDh ant parabh so-ee — in the aad, the beginning, the maDh, the middle, and the ant, the end, it is the same God. Naanak tis bin avar na ko-ee — Nanak says that without that One, there is no avar, no other, at all.

Think of the thread in a friendship bracelet. It runs through every knot, from one end to the other. The One runs like that through all of time, and through every part of our lives.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of something that has been with you from the very start until now?
