It is easy to get so dazzled by shiny things that I stop really seeing, hearing, or understanding what matters. This body won't last forever, and still I chase after stuff that will not last.
But the ones who keep the Name close and stay near their teacher walk away winners.
It's easy to get dazzled by shiny things, but the ones who stay close to the Name and the Guru win in the end.
Daykhai sunay na jaan-ee — the person doesn't truly see, hear, or understand. Maa-i-aa mohi-aa anDh — they are mohi-aa, charmed, by Maya, the glitter of the world, and so they become anDh, unable to see. Think of someone so glued to a phone game that they walk right past a friend who is waving at them.
Kaachee dayhaa vinsanee — the body is kaachee, fragile, and it won't last. Still, they keep busy with things that are false.
Naam Dhi-aavahi say jin chalay — those who remember the Name leave as jin, winners. Gur pooray sanbanDh — they keep a sanbanDh, a close bond, with the pooraa gur, the Perfect Guru. It is that bond, not cleverness, that lasts.
What is something shiny that once distracted you from something that mattered more?
