When the Formless One settles into my mind, my restless coming-and-going quiets down — I stop wandering and start resting.
That One is beyond measuring, higher and wider than I can imagine. Forgetting it is what starts the restlessness up again; remembering is what lets it finally rest.
When the Formless One settles into the mind, restless wandering comes to rest.
Aavan jaanaa reh ga-ay — my coming and going has stopped. Man vuthaa nirankaar — the nirankaar, the Formless One, now lives in my mind. Think of a puppy that runs around the house all day. When it finally curls up next to someone it loves, it stops and rests.
Taa kaa ant na paa-ee-ai — the One's ant, edge or limit, can't be found. Oochaa agam apaar — high, beyond reach, and without end.
Jis prabh apnaa visrai so mar jammai lakh vaar — whoever forgets their God dies and is born again a hundred thousand times. This can also be heard as the restless coming and going of a mind that forgets. And the hope is that this mind, too, can come to rest.
What helps your mind stop wandering and actually settle?
