In plain words

You are my closest friend and my family. I am proud to be Yours.

When You live inside me, I am at peace. On my own I might feel like a nobody — but You are what makes me somebody. My worth is You.

On my own I might feel like a nobody — but belonging to the One makes me somebody.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: You are my friend and my family, and You are what gives me worth.

Sajan toohai sain too means "You are my friend, You are my family." Sajan is a dear friend, and sain is family. Jaa too andar taa sukhay means "when You are inside me, I am at peace."

Toon nimaanee maanee-aa means "I have no honor, and You are my honor." Maan is honor or worth. Think of a kid who feels small until a grandparent says, "That's my grandchild!" with a big smile. Worth isn't something we build by ourselves. It is a gift from the One who lives inside.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you get your sense of being worth something?
