With my ears, I will listen to Your Sermon, if the Guru becomes merciful to me. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let my feet carry me along Your path, and my eyes catch sight of You.

My ears will fill up with stories of You, if the Guru is kind to me.

My whole body wants to point one direction — toward the One.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: I want every part of me, feet, eyes and ears, turned toward You.

Paav julaa-ee panDh means "let my feet walk Your path." Nainee daras dikhaal means "let my eyes see You." Daras, or darshan, means a loving sight of the One. Sarvanee sunee kahaanee-aa means "let my ears hear Your stories."

Jay gur theevai kirpaal means "if the Guru is kind to me." Think of a sunflower turning its whole face to the sun. Every part of us can point toward the One. Grace is what makes it happen.

A Question to Sit With

If your hands, feet, eyes, and ears all pointed toward one good thing, what would it be?
