ਜੈ ਡਿਠੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੀਐ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਵੰਞਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਦੂਰੇ ॥

Seeing Him, my mind is comforted and consoled, and my sins and mistakes are far removed.

How could I ever forget Him, O my mother? He is permeating and pervading everywhere. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I turn toward the One, my mind settles and steadies, and the weight of my mistakes just falls away.

How could I ever forget the One, O my mother? The One fills every place there is.

Forgetting the One who fills everywhere is like forgetting the air.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: how could I forget the One who is everywhere?

Jai dithay man Dheeree-ai means "seeing whom, the mind feels calm and steady." Kilvikh vannjnih dooray means "mistakes go far away." Kilvikh are wrongs and mistakes.

So ki-o visrai maa-o mai means "how could I forget Him, O my mother?" He talks to his mother, like a child sharing something big. Jo rahi-aa bharpooray means "the One who fills every place." Think of forgetting the air you breathe. You can't, really, because it is all around you. Remembering becomes natural, because the One is in everything.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing is so constant in your life that it is easy to stop noticing?
