A Treasure That Lives Inside You

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥
naam niDhaan apaar bhagtaa man vasai.
The infinite treasure of the Naam abides within the minds of the devotees.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਮੋਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran moh dukh saaDhoo sang nasai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Birth and death, attachment and suffering, are erased in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The endless treasure of the Name lives right inside the hearts of those who love it — not far away, but carried within.

And in the company of the wise, the heavy things — the fear, the clinging, the ache — quietly loosen and fall away.

The treasure is not far away — it lives inside the ones who love it.
The deeper layer

This one means the treasure of the Name lives inside those who love it.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad.

naam niDhaan apaar bhagtaa man vasai — the endless treasure of the Name lives in the minds of the bhagtaa, those who love the One. NiDhaan means treasure.

janam maran moh dukh saaDhoo sang nasai — in the company of the good, the sorrow of birth and death runs off. So do moh, clinging, and dukh, pain. Nasai means to run away.

Think of carrying a heavy box with friends. Alone it is too much. Together it feels light. The treasure is inside us, and good company lightens the load.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing do you carry inside you that no one can see from the outside?
