Sing the Songs of Joy

aavhu meet pi-aaray. mangal gaavhu naaray.
So come, my beloved friends, and sing the songs of joy, O sisters.
sach mangal gaavhu taa parabh bhaavahu sohilrhaa jug chaaray.
Sing the true songs of joy and God will be pleased. You shall be celebrated throughout the four ages.
apnai ghar aa-i-aa thaan suhaa-i-aa kaaraj sabad savaaray.
My Husband Lord has come into my home, and my place is adorned and decorated. Through the Shabad, my affairs have been resolved.
gi-aan mahaa ras naytree anjan taribhavan roop dikhaa-i-aa.
Applying the ointment, the supreme essence, of divine wisdom to my eyes, I see the Lord's form throughout the three worlds.
sakhee milhu ras mangal gaavhu ham ghar saajan aa-i-aa. ||2||
So join with me, my sisters, and sing the songs of joy and delight; my friends have come into my home. ||2||

In plain words

Come, dear friends — let us sing songs of joy together. Sing them truly, from the heart, and that joy carries far beyond today.

The One I love has come home, and everything around me looks brighter for it; through the Word, what was tangled has been set right.

It is as if wisdom became an ointment for my eyes, and now I can see the One shining through everything, everywhere. So gather close, friends, and let us sing.

Shared joy sung from the heart clears our eyes to see the One in everything.
The deeper layer

aavhu meet pi-aaray, mangal gaavhu — come, beloved friends, sing songs of joy. mangal is a wedding-song of gladness. gi-aan mahaa ras naytree anjan — the supreme essence of wisdom applied like anjan (eye-ointment, kohl) to the eyes, so that tribhavan roop, the form present in all three worlds, becomes visible. The teaching: real understanding does not add facts so much as clear the sight, letting you see the One who was always there.

A Question to Sit With

What is a song or moment of joy that feels even better when you share it with others?
