In plain words

I give my whole heart in thanks to the teaching, which kept my honor safe and whole.

Holding the One in mind, I found just what my heart truly wished for.

Gratitude grows naturally when you notice how you have been quietly kept safe.
The deeper layer

This one says thank you. The Guru, the true teacher, kept my honor safe.

Gur apunay balihaaree: I give myself to my Guru in thanks. Balihaaree means offering your whole self out of gratitude. It is how you feel when someone catches you just before you fall.

Why so thankful? Jin pooran paij savaaree: my honor was kept fully whole. Paij means honor, your good name. And man chindi-aa fal paa-i-aa: I got the fruit my heart wished for. That fruit came from keeping the One in mind, always.

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped protect something important to you without asking for thanks?
