Safe and sound, I have come home again, and all my pains are over.
Unkind words that were thrown at me simply came to nothing, while the teaching wrapped me in a robe of honor.
Guru Arjan comes home safe, and the unkind words said about him come to nothing.
Sukh saand ghar aa-i-aa — safe and sound, I have come home. Someone had been speaking falsely about him. The verse says the nindak, the one who spreads lies about others, ends up looking foolish. The lies simply do not stick.
Poorai gur pehraa-i-aa — the perfect Guru dressed me in robes of honor. Think of a student wrongly blamed for something, who is then cleared in front of the whole class and thanked. The truth quietly shines brighter than the lie. Binsay dukh sabaa-i-aa — and all the pain is over.
If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.
What helps you stay steady when someone says something unkind about you?
