Verse 2 of 3

Wonder Given, Never Earned

ha-o kurbaan jaa-ee tayray naavai.
I am a sacrifice to Your Name.
jis no bakhas laihi mayray pi-aaray so jas tayraa gaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He alone, whom You have forgiven, O my Beloved, sings Your Praises. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I give my whole self in thanks for Your Name.

When Your kindness reaches someone, joy pours out of them like a song — and that kindness is a gift, never something they had to earn.

Gratitude sings loudest when it knows the gift was free.
The deeper layer

ha-o kurbaan jaaee — I am devoted, given over, to Your Name; bakhas laihi — the one You forgive and bless sings Your praise. This is the Rahau: grace comes first, and the singing flows from kindness received.

A Question to Sit With

When has someone's kindness made you want to give something back?
