In plain words

I give my whole heart in thanks to the teaching, for the Giver has been so kind that gentleness seems to meet me everywhere now.

I came to Your shelter, and You kept my honor whole.

Every trouble has eased — so rest now, my friends, and enjoy the peace.

When the trouble eases, let yourself rest in the peace.
The deeper layer

This one is a warm invitation to rest.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Apnay gur oopar kurbaan: I give myself to my Guru in thanks. The Giver has become kind, and now everyone around seems kind too.

The Guru came to the One's shelter. Pooran paij rakhaa-ee: his honor was kept whole. Saglay dookh mitaa-ee: every sorrow was cleared away.

Then he turns to everyone: sukh bhunchahu mayray bhaa-ee. Enjoy peace, my brothers and sisters. It's like coming home after a long trip and saying, "Kick off your shoes. We're safe now."

A Question to Sit With

What would help you truly rest once a worry has passed?
