In plain words

What can a person do to fill their life with love for the One? How can they let go of every fear?

The best question to ask is what truly sets your heart free.
The deeper layer

This one asks the big question the whole shabad answers. Paraanee ka-un upaa-o karai — what should a person do?

The goal has two parts. First, bhagat raam kee paavai: to find bhagat, loving devotion to the One. Second, jam ko taraas harai: to lose the fear of death. Jam is an old name for death.

This question is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, and every other line turns around it. It is like a question a teacher writes on the board at the start of class. The rest of the lesson is the answer.

A Question to Sit With

What is a big question you find yourself wondering about?
