Every Knot Comes Loose

When I came to the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints, all my evil-mindedness was dispelled.

Then, O Nanak, I remembered the Chintaamani, the jewel which fulfills all desires, and the noose of Death was snapped. ||3||7||

In plain words

The moment I came to the shelter of the wise and kind, my tangled thinking cleared.

Remembering the One — the treasure within — every knot that bound me came loose.

In the right shelter, tangled thinking comes loose.
The deeper layer

This one says: when we come to good company, the knots come loose.

Jab hee saran saaDh kee aa-i-o: the moment I came to the shelter of the good. Durmat sagal binaasee: all my tangled thinking cleared. Durmat means wrong or muddled thinking.

Then the Guru remembered the chintaaman. That is a wish-granting jewel from old stories. Here it means the One, the treasure within. And kaatee jam kee faasee: the rope that the fear of death ties around us was cut.

Think of a tangled necklace. You pull and pull, and it only gets tighter. Then someone kind helps, and the knots slip loose. Fear turns into release.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you go to, when your thoughts get tangled?
