Until you learn to steady your own restless mind, nothing quite works out inside you. Watch closely and you will see this is true.
People can travel to every holy place there is and still come home with the same jumpy, unsettled mind they left with. Visiting special places does not quiet the mind by itself.
The one who turns toward the Guru lets their old grabbing, boasting self grow quiet while they are fully, happily alive, and they stay lovingly absorbed in the True One.
Nanak says: this is how the mind gets clean: the Word gently burns away the ego — that feeling that you are a separate, cut-off self who has to win at everything.
Vin man maaray ko-ay na sijh-ee — without taming the mind, no one succeeds. Jeevat marai ("dying while living") is the quiet dissolving of the ego while you are fully alive — the grasping self going still so the deeper self can live. Travelling to holy places (teerthee bhav) leaves the inner work still to do; the medicine is liv — loving absorption — and the shabad burning away haumai. Ego here is a condition to heal, never a crime.
What helps your own mind settle when it is jumpy and can't sit still? Is it a place you go, or something you do inside yourself?
