Bring me into the Sangat, so that my mouth speaks the beautiful words of the Guru's Bani.
Let me sing the praises of the One, keep the Name always on my lips, and enjoy that love forever.
Remembering the One is like taking a healing medicine — it soothes every worry and eases every kind of pain.
The people who never forget the One, with every breath and every bite, are the complete ones — know this for certain.
And for those who turn toward the Guru and love the One with a full heart, the fear of dying loses its grip, and the world can no longer push them around.
Remembering the One is a medicine that heals every kind of sorrow.
This Pauri gives the Vaar one of its warmest pictures. Har jap jap a-ukhaDh khaaDhi-aa: remembering the One again and again is a medicine I have taken. It clears away every sickness and a whole pile of pains. Think of the warm tea a grandparent makes when you feel sick. It helps even before it has had time to work.
The measure of a loving heart is beautifully ordinary. Saas giraas na visrai means not forgetting the One while breathing or eating. Remembering happens in the middle of everyday life.
The last line talks of jam, the messenger of death, and ending our bowing to him and to the world. Put simply, the fear of dying loses its grip, and the world can no longer push you around. That is freedom.
What is something you can do — even a tiny thing — that calms you down when you are worried or sad? How is that like a medicine for your heart?
