Tangled in Knots, I Slip Free

ਲੋਗੁ ਗੰਠਿ ਗੰਠਿ ਖਰਾ ਬਿਗੂਚਾ ॥
log ganth ganth kharaa bigoochaa.
Mending, mending, people waste their lives and ruin themselves.
ਹਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਂਠੇ ਜਾਇ ਪਹੂਚਾ ॥੨॥
ha-o bin gaaNthay jaa-ay pahoochaa. ||2||
Without wasting my time mending, I have found the Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

People spend their whole lives tying and untying knots of worry, and wear themselves ragged doing it.

But without fussing over a single knot, I have quietly gone and arrived, home in the One.

Sometimes letting go of the struggle is exactly how you arrive.
The deeper layer

This one says people wear themselves out with knots, and Ravidas slips free.

Log ganth ganth kharaa bigoochaa — people tie knot after knot and wear themselves ragged. The ganth, the knot, is Ravidas's picture of worry and grabbing: always mending, always fixing fears and wants.

Then he says that without tying a single knot, he has arrived. Setting the tools down, he finds he's already where all that effort was trying to go.

Think of a tangled necklace. The harder you pull, the tighter the knot. Relax your hands, and it loosens. Sometimes stopping the struggle is the arrival.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever solved something by stopping the fuss instead of trying harder?
