In plain words

Love for the One has become the dearest thing to me.

The moment I sat among good people, a deep peace walked right into my heart.

You've been living quietly inside me all along, day and night — I just hadn't understood; now, through the teaching, You've become clear, and I can't stop singing.

You've been living quietly inside me all along — I just hadn't understood until now.
The deeper layer

This one says: You've been living inside me all along.

First comes the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Gobid pareet lagee at pi-aaree — love for the One has become the dearest thing to me. Gobid is a name for the One, the Keeper of the world. The next line says that when I joined the satsang, the company of good people, the One who is peace itself walked into my heart.

Then the verse says: too hirdai gupat vaseh din raatee — You live hidden in my heart, day and night. It says those who don't understand this love are foolish. We can hear that gently, about ourselves: I just hadn't understood. It is like hunting all over the house for your glasses while they sit on your head.

Gupat means hidden, and pargati-aa means made clear. Through the Guru, the hidden One becomes clear, and the heart starts to sing.

A Question to Sit With

What's something that was quietly with you a long time before you noticed it?
