Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By great fortune I've been given the jewel of a human life — so please, be kind to me.

In good company, may I sing the One's praises and hold it in mind forever.

Being alive at all is a rare jewel — worth spending on wonder and gratitude.
The deeper layer

The close names being alive as ratan janam — the jewel of a human birth — a precious, unrepeatable chance. The response is not pride but a plea for kindness (karahu kirpaa kirpaalaa) and a simple wish: in saaDhsang, good company, to sing and remember. Gratitude for existence itself, turned toward praise.

A Question to Sit With

If this life is a rare gift, what is one thing you'd love to do with it?
