In plain words

Deep inside every heart, the One is quietly hidden — its light glowing in each and every chest.

When the teaching swings open the heavy doors inside you, fear falls away and you settle into a deep, still calm.

The One you've been searching for is quietly hidden inside every heart, waiting for the doors to open.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak says the One is hidden inside every heart, and the Guru's teaching opens the door.

Ghat ghat antar barahm lukaa-i-aa: in heart after heart, the One is hidden. Ghat ghat jot sabaa-ee: Its light is in every one.

After all the lines about what the One is not, here is where the One is: inside everyone.

Bajar kapaat: heavy, locked doors, strong as iron. These are the blocks inside us that keep us from noticing what is already there. Muktay gurmatee: the gurmat, the Guru's teaching, swings them open.

Think of a treasure chest in your own attic. It was there all along, but the door was stuck. Once someone helps you open it, the treasure was yours the whole time.

Nirbhai taarhee laa-ee: then you settle, without fear, into deep stillness. Fearlessness, nirbhau, is also named in the Mool Mantar. Once you sense the One inside, there is nothing left to be afraid of.

A Question to Sit With

What is a 'heavy door' inside you that, if it opened, would let more light in?
