In plain words

The One made all beings and set the fact of life's ending over every one of them; the whole flow of existence is held in its care.

By serving the true teaching you find the real treasure, and by living the deep song you are set free.

Everything lives and everything ends within one caring flow — and living the teaching sets the heart free.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak says everything that lives and ends is held in the One's care, and living the Word sets us free.

Jant upaa-ay kaal sir jantaa: the One made all beings and set kaal, life's ending, over each of them. It is said honestly, without fear. Every life has a beginning and an end.

Vasgat jugat sabaa-ee: everything moves by the One's way. That way is called hukam, the One's order, the flow that holds all things. Think of the seasons. Spring and autumn both come, and none of it happens by accident.

So how do we find peace? Satgur sayv padaarath paavahi: by serving the True Guru, we find the padaarath, the real treasure. Chhooteh sabad kamaa-ee: we become free by living the Word.

Knowing a recipe is nice. Cooking the meal is what feeds you. In the same way, living the teaching, not just knowing it, is what sets the heart free.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean to you to actually live a good teaching, not just know it?
