Peace Begins When ‘Mine and Yours’ Softens

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਪੰਚਪਦਾ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5 panchpadaa.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl, Panch-Padas:
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
binsai moh mayraa ar tayraa binsai apnee Dhaaree. ||1||
May my emotional attachment, my sense of mine and yours, and my self-conceit be dispelled. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let the clinging fall away — the walls of "mine" and "yours," and the whole habit of holding myself apart.

So much peace begins when "mine and yours" softens.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens with a single, clean wish: binsai moh mayraa ar tayraa binsai apnee dhaaree — let attachment, the fence of mine-and-yours, and self-conceit all dissolve. Apnee dhaaree is the stance of holding yourself as separate. In the project's lens, this is haumai — the illusion of being cut off from the whole — and the whole song is a request to have that illusion gently dissolved, not smashed.

A Question to Sit With

When has drawing a hard line between "mine" and "yours" made things worse?
