Verse 3 of 6

Seeing the One in Everyone, No One to Look Down On

ਸਰਬ ਭੂਤ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹੋਵਾਂ ਸਗਲ ਰੇਨਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
sarab bhoot paarbarahm kar maani-aa hovaaN sagal raynaaree. ||2||
I see the Supreme Lord God in all beings, and I am the dust of all. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Here is the way: see the One shining in every single being, and be glad to be humble before all of them.

When you see the One in everyone, there is no one left to look down on.
The deeper layer

The first part of the answer: sarab bhoot paarbarahm kar maani-aa — recognize the One in every being; hovaan sagal raynaaree — become, gladly, the dust of all. Once you truly see the same One in everyone, looking down on anyone becomes impossible, and humility stops feeling like loss. This is exactly how ego dissolves — not by force, but because seeing clearly leaves it no room to stand.

A Question to Sit With

How might you treat people differently if you saw the same light in all of them?
