Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
My doctor is the Teacher, the One who holds the whole universe.
He places the medicine of the Name on my tongue, and even the fear of death loosens its hold.
The Name is medicine, and it eases even the fear of death.
Baid means physician; aukhadh means medicine. The Name-as-medicine is one of Sorath’s warmest images. The old picture of jam kee fandhaa, a noose, is softened here to “the fear of death loosens” — the teaching kept, the frightening image set down.
