I have come under the protection of the One, my King. So sing His goodness in peace and joy, and mind, body, and whole being grow easy.
My Teacher lifts up everyone, no matter how far they’ve wandered. I’ve placed my whole trust in Him. The True One heard my prayer and forgave completely.
This one is the thank-you after a prayer has been answered.
Ho-ee raajay raam kee rakhvaalee — I have come under the protection of the One, my King. This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the idea everything else leans on.
Then comes patit uDhaaran satgur mayraa. My true Teacher lifts up the fallen, anyone who has wandered far. The door is always open, however far someone has gone.
The quiet high point comes at the very end: sun naanak kee ardaasaa. An ardaas is a heartfelt prayer. The True One heard Nanak's prayer (Guru Arjan signs his hymns with that name) and forgave everything. Think of calling home from far away and hearing a parent say, "Come home. It's all right." Being heard like that is the whole gift.
Have you ever felt truly heard after asking for help?
