In plain words

Freedom lives in the Name, my friends.

Whether you are standing up or sitting down, keep the One in mind -- and all day long, do good.

Remembering the One and doing good are two sides of the same day.
The deeper layer

Keep the One in mind all day long, and keep doing good.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Santahu raam naam nistaree-ai — friends, the Name carries us across to freedom.

Oothat baithat har har dhi-aa-ee-ai — while standing up and sitting down, keep the One in mind. Remembering the One is not only for a special place or a special way of sitting. It is a thread that runs through everything you do, like a favorite song playing softly while you do your chores.

An-din sukrit karee-ai — night and day, do good deeds. Sukrit means kind and good actions. Remembering inside and doing good outside are woven together, like two threads in one cloth.

A Question to Sit With

What is one small good thing you could do today, without waiting for a special moment?
