Sikhism·Raag Sorath·Shabad 87
Verse 2 of 4

Leaning on the One, I Lean on No One Else

har kee paraym bhagat man leenaa.
My mind is absorbed in loving devotional worship of the Lord,
nit baajay anhat beenaa. rahaa-o.
and the unstruck melody of the celestial sound current ever resounds within me. ||Pause||
har charan kee ot sataanee.
The Lord's feet are my all-powerful shelter and support;
sabh chookee kaan lokaanee.
my dependence on other people is totally finished.
jagjeevan daataa paa-i-aa.
I have found the Life of the world, the Great Giver;
har rasak rasak gun gaa-i-aa. ||2||
in joyful rapture, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||

In plain words

My mind is soaked in loving the One, and a music with no instrument keeps playing inside me.

The One's shelter is strong, so my need to depend on other people's approval is finished. I found the Giver, the Life of the world, and I sing His goodness with delight.

When you rest in something solid, you stop needing everyone's approval.
The deeper layer

The Rahau plus verse: anhat beenaa -- the unstruck flute, the inner music. Sabh chookee kaan lokaanee -- the constant looking-to-others for approval falls away; a strong shelter frees you from needing everyone to like you.

A Question to Sit With

Whose approval do you chase most -- and how would it feel to need it a little less?
