In plain words

There is one resting place and one great Love — and a heart turned toward it gets to rest in an ocean of peace.

There's one true resting place for the heart — and resting there is like floating in a wide, calm sea.
The deeper layer

There is one true resting place for the heart. Resting there feels like floating on a wide, calm sea.

Guru Ram Das opens with a very simple picture. Sayj ayk ayko prabh thaakur: there is one bed, and one Master. The bed means a resting place. The Master is the One, the Beloved.

Gurmukh har raavay sukh saagar: the gurmukh, a heart turned toward the One, delights in the One. The One is sukh saagar, an ocean of peace.

Think of lying back in warm, still water on a summer day. The water holds you up, and you do not have to do anything. There is one true home for the heart, and resting there feels just like that.

A Question to Sit With

Where does your heart feel most at rest, like floating in calm water?
