True is the Bani of His Word, and True is the melody; True is contemplative meditation on the Word of the Shabad.

Night and day, I praise the True Lord. Blessed, blessed is my great good fortune. ||1||

In plain words

The good, true words are real; the tune is real; turning them over quietly in your heart is real.

Day and night I sing about what's true — and I feel so lucky to get to.

The deepest, most solid real thing — call it Truth — is worth singing about day and night.
The deeper layer

This Ashtapadee of Guru Amar Das is built, verse after verse, on one word: sach — True, Truth, the real. It opens by calling the Bani (the sacred words), the melody, and the contemplation all true — real, solid, trustworthy. In Sikh thought Sach is one of the deepest names for the One: that which truly is, unchanging beneath all the passing things. The whole hymn will explore living a life made entirely of truth.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean for something to be really, truly real, not just pretend?
