The True Guru has given me this treasure. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Keep one good, true thing in your heart and say it to yourself — that's a treasure worth having.

One good, true thing kept close in your heart is a real treasure.
The deeper layer

This is the rahao line, the "pause." It is the center of the whole shabad (a shabad is one hymn).

Jap man mayray too ayko naam: O my mind, keep remembering the One Name. The Name means the living presence of the One.

Satgur dee-aa mo ka-o ayhu nidhaan: the True Guru, the wise teacher, has given me this treasure.

The shabad talks a lot about being clean inside. Here the answer is simple and warm. Remembering the One is what cleans and steadies the heart. It is not a chore. It is a gift, like a favorite song you carry everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

What good thought would you like to keep close and return to?
